Please put April 11th on your calendar. This is our next General Meeting and it promises to be a unique and enjoyable experience. Resendiz Brothers Ranch will play host to a very down-to-earth and hands-on event where members will have an opportunity to share different protea varieties with one another while honing their propagation skills.
General Meeting
Propagation Party
10:00 am - 12 noon
Saturday, April 11th
Unlike recent meetings we will be getting together in the morning while it's nice and cool. Coffee and pastries will be served while we get settled. The emphasis at this event is less about the dining and more about the participation. (You may even get your hands dirty.) Here's what to expect:
Business First: President Mel Resendiz recently went to Washington D.C. and will report back to the members about what he learned. Also expect a quick report about IPA. We are hoping to get California folks to attend!
Activity: Each member brings stem cuttings to share or exchange with others who may not have that variety. Each of us will be provided a flat of soil and rooting solution. Mel will lead us through the propagation techniques while each of us builds a stem flat. Not for beginners only, because throughout the process we encourage our more experienced members to share tips and tricks that have worked for them.
How to Prepare: Early Saturday morning, take stem cuttings and put them in a bucket and keep them in the shade. Do NOT add water to the bucket. (It is GOOD for them to get thirsty.)
What to Wear: Jeans, Comfortable Shoes
What's Provided: Flats, Soil, Rooting solution
What to Bring: A bucket or two of stems, pruning shears, gloves.
Takeaways: You will leave with a flat of stems that you created and a better understanding of the propagation process. Should you be lucky enough to grow roots you may even get some baby plants.
