California Protea Association
Newsletter, January 2014

Happy New Year CPA members!  We are looking forward to a great 2014 with lots of California sunshine and a host of activities to keep us informed and energized. First up is the General Meeting at Agri-Services. See details in the left column (please note the address/time change).

Next, we look forward to the "Spring" show in Del Mar. You may notice the show dates are actually in winter, but apparently they like to get a jump on spring by having it early!  We hope everyone can find a way to participate this year. See below for more.

King Line
CPA to Exhibit at Del Mar Show

February 28 - March 2, 2014
(Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

This has been a tremendous show for us in the past. Del Mar attracts attendees that tend to be of a more high-end, professional nature then some other shows. We get a chance to talk with professional designers and landscapers about the benefits of using more Protea.

At the 3-day show, we typically sell 1-gallon Protea plants (as well as smaller sleeve-size) along with bouquets and even cut stems. Booth volunteers get a chance to meet new contacts, spread the love for Protea, and raise money for our Association. It's a win-win all around. If you haven't participated in the past, this is your chance to change that.

We Need Your Help!

Here's how you can help make this year's show a big success:

Donate Time:
We know your time is precious, but if you can donate your "self" as a volunteer you will not regret it.  You'll make an enormous contribution, but also get to have a great time. We always have a blast in Del Mar!  Volunteers are needed to help sell plants at the booth, set up, or tear down. Any help is appreciated. (We don't expect you to be there for the duration. One day or even a half day is a big help.) The show hours are:

Friday: 11am-6pm
Saturday: 10am-6pm
Sunday: 10am-5pm

Exhibit volunteers have their own entrance. For more information about the show, including directions, check out the Del Mar Garden Show website.

To volunteer, please contact Allan Sprankle: 760-728-4985

Donate Plants:
Those of you that are propagators may not have the time to volunteer in person, but you may have the inventory we need! Donating plants for us to sell at this show is a HUGE contribution! We always need Protea plants and anything with even a hint of a bloom is highly desirable.

Donate Bouquets/Stems
Creating bouquets and donating them for sale is a great way to help out.

To donate plants or bouquets, please call Allan Sprankle: 760-728-4985
